The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation was started in 1993 by three Miami women and has grown into a statewide force for ending breast cancer through research, education, and advocacy, with a deliberate focus on underserved communities. Its funding supports scientific research grants, community education, and direct patient services like mammograms and living-expense assistance. Floridians may know it best from the End Breast Cancer specialty license plate it has run since 2002.
How the pickups work
Pickups for Breast Cancer is the foundation’s free home pickup service, covering four regions: South Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties), Central Florida around Orlando, the West Coast down through Naples, and North Florida. Donated goods are sold through the foundation’s retail partner, American Thrift, and that revenue funds the mission.
What they accept
Clothing and accessories, shoes, household goods, bedding and linens, electronics including flat-screen TVs and computers, art, antiques, jewelry, toys, and books. Furniture and mattresses are collected in South Florida only, with furniture disassembled and ready to go. Large appliances, projection TVs, and textbooks stay home in every region.
