Kids Beating Cancer was founded in 1992 by Margaret Guedes in memory of her son John, who died of leukemia at age nine. In the decades since, the organization reports raising more than $30 million and touching the lives of over 14,000 children. It operates the Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center at AdventHealth for Children in Orlando, funds pediatric cancer research grants, and supports families through the hardest journey there is.
How the pickups work
KBC Pickups is the organization’s donation pickup service across South Florida, with more than thirty communities served from Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton up through West Palm Beach to Stuart. Donors check their zip code, schedule a home pickup, and the resale value of their goods becomes funding for treatment access and research.
What they accept
Clothing, shoes, handbags, linens, jewelry, electronics, books, toys, kitchenware, and small appliances. Items should be manageable by one person, so furniture and other large pieces are not collected.
