Living Beyond Breast Cancer was founded in 1991 by a radiation oncologist who saw that patients needed more than treatment; they needed trustworthy information and a community that understands. Today the organization reaches roughly two million people a year with education, support groups, a peer helpline staffed by volunteers who have been there themselves, an annual conference on metastatic breast cancer, and direct financial assistance for people in treatment.
