The National Kidney Foundation traces back to 1950, when Ada and Harry DeBold organized to fight the disease that took their son. Seventy-five years later, the foundation works to eliminate preventable kidney disease and support patients through education, screening, research, and programs surrounding dialysis and transplantation.
How the pickups work
Clothing and household-goods pickups are run by regional NKF affiliates. The Florida affiliate’s program serves many areas of the state with free home pickups, resells donations through thrift partners, and reports millions raised for its programs over the life of the effort. The national organization separately runs Kidney Cars, a vehicle donation program operating in all fifty states.
What they accept
Clothing and small household items such as dishes, kitchen accessories, garden tools, sporting goods, and small appliances, packed in bags or boxes one person can safely load. Furniture, large appliances, mattresses, and computer equipment are not collected.
