St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa is the largest children’s hospital in West Central Florida, with a healthcare tradition reaching back to 1934. Its foundation funds the things that make a children’s hospital extraordinary: neonatal intensive care, pediatric cancer services, and a new children’s hospital facility on the way. One of its funding streams starts at Tampa Bay’s front doors.
How the pickups work
The Sunshine Thrift program is a fundraising effort of the foundation in partnership with Collection Solutions & Management and community partner Sunshine Thrift Store. Trucks run in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. Donors schedule online or by phone, set out up to 25 labeled bags or boxes by 8am, and a driver collects them rain or shine. A tax receipt arrives by email, and proceeds from resale go to the foundation.
What they accept
Anything one person can safely lift and carry: clothing in any condition, shoes, bedding, books, toys, kitchenware, small appliances, electronics, sporting goods, and holiday decor. Furniture, mattresses, and large appliances stay home.
