The United Breast Cancer Foundation began in 2000 as a grassroots New York organization serving low-income, under-insured, and uninsured women and men, and went national in 2005. Its programs range from breast screening and reconstruction assistance to child sponsorship, college scholarships, and a Gift-in-Kind program that puts personal care and household items directly into the hands of patients and survivors.
How the pickups work
The foundation’s pickup service collects donations across Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties in New York, dozens of towns in northern and central New Jersey, and southwestern Connecticut from Greenwich to Fairfield. Items are sold through thrift partnerships, donors receive tax receipts, and the proceeds fund UBCF’s patient programs.
